Our Motivation . . .

America is reported to have the weakest families in the Western world with the highest divorce rate and the highest rate of single parent households.

It is also reported that over 100,000 children are awaiting adoption in American. Most of these children enter the system through no fault of their own.  They are victims of neglect, abuse and/or abandonment.  Many of them will reach their 18th birthday without ever having a permanent loving family.

Similarly, 58% of the Nation’s older Americans are in need of some form of assistance due to the lack of family support also caused by neglect, abuse, abandonment and/or poverty.

Finally, as unemployment and the cost of living continues to increase, a greater number of Americans are facing foreclosures, homelessness and many of those that manage to keep their homes are forced to choose between buying gas and grocery.

The Good News . . .

For such a time as this, God has blessed the body of Christ to be a blessing to others – that He might establish His covenant – that all families of the earth are blessed.

Our Covenant . . .

We recognize that many of these individuals will never reach the four walls of a church building, and as Christ did we will meet them where they are – this is our call.  Through the support of our network of volunteers and providers, Covenant Connection endeavors to be facilitators of the mission of Christ, and that is, to serve the people – this is our Covenant. Our Mission . . .

To connect  volunteers with community service opportunities to meet the social and spiritual needs of displaced and disadvantaged children, elderly, and families in crisis with the love of God, ultimately restoring the family unit and improving their quality of life.

Our Objectives . . .

Restore individuals to right relationship with God by meeting their needs with the love of Christ.

Reduce the number of children living without families by educating the faith-based community on adoption needs and the believer’s responsibilities.

Reduce the number of older Americans living without assistance or support by promoting the well-being of the elderly through educational and enrichment programs.

Reduce the divorce rate, strengthen single parent households and improve the quality of life for disadvantaged families through training in Christian family-life skills and values, job readiness and distribution of basic needs items.

 Founder’s Message

Our passion for family restoration combined with the Hurricane Katrina experience was the catalyst for the birthing of Covenant Connection. Much like hundreds of thousands of New Orleaneans, we were displaced, homeless and in need. As we reflected on the Katrina experience, we realized that God blessed us through the combined resources of government sectors, faith-based groups, volunteers and the simple compassion of everyday people. This experience changed our lives and increased our sensitivity to the needs of the community. We realized that even the little things could make a big difference in someone”s life.

News of our work to improve the quality of life for seniors is being “noised abroad” throughout our community.  In an article entitlted “Caring for Our Most Prized Citizens . . . Seniors,” in the May 29 – June 4, 2010 issue, New Orleans Data News Weekly honors Covenant Connection Founders.

In addition to the Board of Directors, Covenant Connection also relies on volunteers from churches and faith-based groups to assist in serving and meeting the needs of the community.   The Board also works closely with our Coordinator of Special Events for expertise in catering and event planning.
